That may apply to ads, (which I don't see because I use Adblocker), I'm referring to actual posts.

Don't know about ad blocking, but you must have post blocking.
Your 'standard' is how you drive alone, not how you drive during a test.

Well this is a quote from his web design site about ADUK.

"With over 30,000 visits a month it helps drivers with a range of motoring related issues. It has a popular UK Traffic reporting facility and one of the largest advanced driving forums in the world, which has over 2,000 active members and 100,000+ posts"

30,000 visits a month from spammers with 2,000 active spammers would be a better description. The only new posts on there now is spam and people talking about the spam.

The higher you are, the further you have to fall.

It never had 2000 active members. Probably about 100. Sometimes I feel bad about abandoning it, but there's nothing there I want to read now. It's what happens when a not-for-profit idea becomes commercialised. Inevitable.

Exactly, the majority of active, in terms of posting and driving days, have moved. Thing is though, I suspect there were some "reading" members as with all 'sites and it's probably those who haven't yet found this place.

I think you will be right, those with less investment as they don't post have less reason to search for this forum, even though it must be obvious that something has changed dramatically other than just the colour...

So we will have lost some who read but didn't contribute, however I am not sure whether that is good / bad / indifferent? If someone doesn't wish to join in, how much interest do they have in improving? While we are a broad church here and certainly have no expectations of those who are members, equally I suspect that most on here do have an interest in being a better driver and it is that interest which leads to discussion and life here...

So the forum is no worse off without lots who read but don't sign up... I think we already have a health balance of regular / occasional posters and am comfortable with the pace of growth... Some great folks on here...

I have the impression that there has been less substantive discussion here than in a typical comparable period in the 'old days'. I am not sure whether that is due to the move, or perhaps to the fact that most of us have already debated most of the obvious issues several times over. Perhaps I need to restart a thread on 'can you be an advanced driver and not obey the speed limit?'

I think your second idea is correct. As far as your last sentence is concerned: of course one can.

Oh dear, I do hope "Separation Master" won't make an appearance. :)

Looking at the stats, we have had an average of:
- 2.45 new topics per day
- 41.82 new posts per day

That seems much higher than ADUK when I can remember it going a week without any posts... As for substance or quality... The admin dashboard doesn't report on that! :D

I think that there is truth in folks feeling that a certain number of topics have already been discussed, and we probably have mainly the regular crowd posting, so not as many newcomers to AD to post their queries... However that may Chang over time, without any effort being put into it we are climbing Google :) so that will bring more newcomers...

Maybe we need members to each have their little specialisms and if they started a new thread once every couple of weeks we would see the diversity and quantity of discussion grow?
