I am just re-watching James May & Oz Clarke on their first Wine series (when they went around France with Oz teaching May about wine) - in this episode they are in a car museum at a chateaux where the chateaux owner collects presidential vehicles - and they were showing the assasination Lincoln, with the comment that it was taken back to the factory 3 hours after the shooting, dismantled and was shortly after bought by the chateau owner who shipped it over to France and had it rebuilt...

looks as though it wasn't the real one in France then :) - though they gave a convincing explanation, and the museum was full of very interesting cars... but equally, probably not destroyed - maybe we will never know!
