I'm on my second pair of La Sportiva X approach shoes. These are fine in all the cars I've driven in the last 5yrs. I also wear driving shoes with very thin soles with rounded heels which also work well. As mentioned previously above, its when the ankle becomes restrained that pedal control become less fluid.

My standard shoe is a loake moccasin - doesn’t get in the way… but am also happy wearing anything like wellies amor walking boots… biggest difference is in ability to heel and toe, but not all cars have pedals allowing that now anyway

Mention of Heel and Toe (which I’ve never been able to do, not even ‘nearly’), led me to Google.
Found an Interesting clip, showing Ayrton Senna’s technique and footware…
…looks like I missed out though, my own advanced test was nothing like that.
well there is the answer - leather loafers - my other favourite shoe!

I prefer a thinner soled shoe for driving, and my casual (not trainers) and formal footwear is generally fine for me. The only exception to this is a pair of Puma driving shoes which are necessary for the Caterham due to the restricted size of the pedal box, making most shoes too wide!
