Dash cameras

Postby ratty » Mon Jun 20, 2016 6:45 pm

Hello

:help:

Following a recent 'meeting' I had with a motor bike whilst stationary at a roundabout :headbang: , can anyone recommend a camera system to fit to cars?

Ideally it would cover front and rear and could be transferred to different cars easily.

Thanks very much.

Dashcams or whatever you want to call them should be a factory fit, they will of course condemn you if you are in the wrong but will save your backside if you are in the right and have been wronged

"The camera never lies"

Just look at any "bad driving" video on YouTube or Facebook and the differences of opinion of people watching and commenting on them.

Sorry to hear about your encounter with the motorbike. I hope that all concerned are okay.

There are two Which? Best Buy Dash Cams. They are the Nextbase In-Car Cam 512G Ultra and the Nextbase In-Car Cam 402G Professional.

The Nextbase Duo Dash Cam is not recommended by Which? However, a reviewer has said that they would recommend it!

I don't have a Dash Cam but it is something I have been thinking about getting, since my car was used as target practice by a motorcyclist last December. :biker:
I would be interested to hear which Dash Cam you decide to get.

This site is well worth following. Not just for dash and action cams, but for all the tech, old and new, he reviews.

This is the tricky bit, the front cam, if you just use the supplied gig lighter power lead and a suction cup mount, will be relatively easy to transfer the rear not so easy unless your vehicle has a rear 'cig lighter' socket.

Mine are hard wired to the vehicle using parts like this

Thanks for these replies so far.

Does anyone know if a car's reversing camera could be wired some how to also record the rear view?

Thanks again.

No they shouldn't. Cameras don't paint the whole picture. This is no different to the idea of all cars being fitted with 'black box' or 'telematic' recorders. It should be optional. You have to pay for them when you buy the car. Then you have no choice as to the specific type or model fitted. Then they might become a problem if they fail... something else manufacturers expect you to pay exorbitant prices for. A whole can of worms that we can do without.

Like most things on a car you will, most likely, be able to switch them on or off, I doubt it would put £50.00 on the price of a car and that is in the showroom, crash for cash and flash for cash is on the increase and for this alone a dashcam is a good idea just make sure you are driving cirrectly
