valid point - however the more you have to take into account dem umans wot ignor the rulz :) the more ai you need...
ai to run autonomous cars on their own is comparatively simple - add in one human driving their own car and current ai can't handle it - add in millions and no chance... As a result you can't use ai - you have to apply presets and do so on a balance of risks...

I still would love to have answered the question:
"how does any manufacturer believe that they can deliver autonomous cars / lorries / buses etc. when we still don't have a network of driverless trains?"

surely we should be stopping any tube strikes by replacing all drivers there with computers - if they can do cars, a tube system should be a doddle - even the average 12 year old train buff could programme their model network to do it...

I've ranted about this before, but we do in some places (eg DLR, airport shuttle trains etc). The UK has a specific problem with unions that the government seem unwilling to address.

South of England currently has an ongoing 'challenge' with the incumbent railway company wanting to get rid of guards and go single-crewed. After all, it works on buses and there the driver has to steer too!

So who sells you your ticket when the machine at the station is dead, who helps the disabled passengers on and off . . . ?

tell me about it :headbang: :headbang:

although it has to be said the train company doesn't want to go single crewed by default - only when people are off sick. All the existing jobs have been guaranteed til the end of the franchise, but that aint good enough for the union :(

meanwhile people like me have to put up with two stubborn sides not budging on their viewpoints, while we are caught in the middle. been going on too long....
