Government Think survey

It's statistics, so can probably be made to mean anything you'd like, so how do you interpret:

Apparently the only things the public consider to be less dangerous than driving at 90mph on motorway when no traffic is parking on double yellow lines and using mobile phone with hands free.

Bit worrying people think speeding is more dangerous than driving too fast for the conditions, but only to be expected given the public brainwashing campaigns telling people it's okay to run kids over so long as you do it slowly enough not to kill them

that is a good thing surely - they are saying that all the other things are more dangerous - i.e. the public doesn't consider 90mph on motorways to be that big an issue...

interestingly speeding on a country road is seen as more of an issue than 40mph in a 30mph area...

As with all these things - the minute they put english language against the statistics to draw conclusions they do so by making assumptions and from a bias... ;)

Again, (and also thinking about the person that might bother responding to a "think" survey), I imagine it's Mr self-righteous who does 40 everywhere, because it's a "safe" speed. And because he's a "safe" driver, everyone who overtakes him in an NSL (even assuming he knows NSL is 60, not 50), is clearly a nutter, while doing 40 in a village must be safe, because that's what he chooses to do, and 30 feels too slow

exactly - and highlights the biggest issue with the survey - the selection of those answering and how you (should!) make sure that they have no inbuilt bias...

as we know it is only on this forum that we are totally unbiased and reasonable - so we should be the core selection for such surveys!

The depressing thing is that "survey" will have far more weight in setting government roads policy than any number of advanced drivers/advanced driving organisations. :soap:

Interstingly this perception seems quite global. At the very least it's the same here...

I think people mistaken speeding for being in a hurry or being rushed in the action of driving (sounds better in hebrew, where both words have the same stem).

The antics outside our house (there's a school nearby) indicate both speeding and rushing; generally by the adults taking/collecting the little darlings from school :)
