NE drivers are the best apparently :)

http://www.scotsman.com/news/scottish-m ... -1-4008168

of course the article being in the Scotsman is about the Scots being second best...
but seems that there might be a N / S divide!

This is the ranking of where the highest proportion of Britain’s safest drivers live, according to Direct Line:
1. North East
2. Scotland
3. East of England
4. North West
5. Midlands
6. London
7. Wales and the West
8. Yorkshire
9. South West
10. South East

looks as though I come second from last...

We're not that bad down here in the South West.

Aren't the Cotswolds more "Wales and the West" than "South West"?

We are technically SW though as I am in the corner of Wilts / Glos / Oxon who knows!

Surprised London is that high up, but maybe nothing moves fast enough to have major accidents.
Can well believe the top 3. Less traffic around so less to hit.

/oh, read the article now. They don't mean "safe". They mean "can drive to a black box". Sadly the more and more they talk in that terminology, the more it's going to be accepted, and even the IAM didn't object to its use :(

I'm not surprised the S.E. comes in last.
During my regular drives from Catalunya to Sussex it is the last 20 miles from the ferry which demand extra concentration :)

The bloke from Moneybox on the BBC did a talking head spot on the news this morning and was talking about the predicted increases in insurance premiums. Part of his advice to get a lower premium was to get a black box because they allow the insurance company to identify "safer drivers".

The Aviva advert is particularly annoying, encouraging people to download the app so they can compare with their friends to see who is the "safest driver".

Right, I'm off out to drive safely. :)

I wish I had a disposable phone I could register, just to give it a try and see how low a score I can get

I've been very tempted to ask the ASA to stop them using the term "safe" without some scientific evidence to support their claim.

It would be an interesting study for us all to download the app and see the results... But...
- I don't want to give them my personal information
- I suspect that their understanding of safe driving is not an exact match with ours... Quit how a black box measures your abilities at observation / overtaking / etc. I will never know...
