He does make a good point about the imaginary pedestrian crossings.
Paint crossing markings at junctions inside the give-way line. I think this may come, in time, be more widespread in general.
It´s common practice where I live and around many other European countries. The markings are generally repeated at frequent intervals in urban areas.
It also happens very often that when wheeled traffic has a green light to turn, they must also give way to pedestrians crossings the road they are entering. It is usual, commonplace.
The referenced governmennt blog mentions there will be a period of getting used to this. It is something new (well, not that new really) for the UK motorist who has rarely had to give way in such circumstances. The blog also mentions, intimates, that it is up to road users to keep abreast of changes.
Greater advertising and a more thorough introduction would have been useful.
