Re: Interesting AD decision to share

Interesting. This sounds like you were, effectively, racing the ambulance? You chose to overtake it in the NSL sections, but then held it up in the lower speed limits? wouldn't that be the same impression if you meet one of those upright members of the community who does 40mph everywhere... you wou...

Re: 4x4, winter tyres, ESC . . . who needs it? - video

Reminds me of a journey up a Welsh mountain pass mid 1990's. We were in my old Granada and friends were in a big Alfa (164?). Both cars were really struggling. Not so the old lady in the Morris Minor, who happily went past us with no problems whatsoever.

Re: Would you break the law here?

I'm not sure I see how being the last car in a queue in lane 1 is any different to being the last car when there's congestion. You are still at risk of the next vehicle behind you. I'd guess that people continuing in lane one would see the queue on the hard shoulder and expect everyone wanting to l...

Re: Would you break the law here?

This has been going on a long time then Matt? :) Back in time Yes, well spotted. At the time it caused me to re-think my journey to avoid it (I used to turn left off the slip road anyway). I just happened to be passing the junction this morning and was surprised that nothing has changed in a couple...

Re: Would you break the law here?

Apologies, not a good explanation! The queue is to leave at the junction (in fact virtually everyone is waiting to turn right at the top of the slip road into Cambridge). There are of course many issues here....I think it unlikely that anyone new to the area would realise that the queue was for the ...

Would you break the law here?

I have avoided it for years now (I now take the previous junction) but happened to go past junct13 of the M11 this morning. Sure enough, 300 yards of traffic on the hard shoulder, with lane 1 running at 60-70. Providing you were quick enough to realise what was going on, would you join that queue?

Re: Mobile phones

A nice easy DIY one this - just remove all the plug caps and stick the leads straight on to the spark plugs. Your phone will be scrambled along with the radio and all TV's in the vicinity :D .

Re: Mother knows best . . .

Thinking about it, a lot of junctions have the right turn allowed on flashing amber, but I don't think the central amber is normally used for this.

Re: Mother knows best . . .

I drive a lot in France and never fail to be amused by their amber phase, which seems to be set at about a millisecond. Anyone know why they have it there at all?
