Re: APNR cameras
ANPR cameras are used for enforcement, or at least those fitted to police cars are. I have a friend who let the insurance slip on his household's second car; His wife took the car for a spin to the shops: This proved an expensive combination of mistake and communication failure! The trick to enforce...

Re: Life sentences
No current law requires suspects to take a body-fluids check. The link explains why this is now needed. I expect one of the various random bits of existing anti-terror legislation could be abused for such a reason, since they're already abused so widely  Do you think a pissed-up fighty person...

I'll add a number eight to your list: 8. The need for this http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/theresa-may-backs-new-law-protecting-emergency-workers-from-assaults-in-line-of-duty-five-case-studies_uk_59e7b1cce4b00905bdae7e17?ncid=engmodushpmg00000003 . Re: Life sentences
The penalties for poor driving, dangerous driving, have been too low for a long time. We also have a government somewhat desperate for popular approval. A 14 year gaol sentence is a pretty significant (life destroying) penalty. Personally, I would prefer to be the victim of the fatal crash than to ...

Re: Riding a bicycle without brakes
If we start with educating children how to use roads safely then maybe they will grow in to adults who respect the dangers and behave accordingly. Ah, back to this: http://thumbs4.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/mMz3BODrmiMsFlNuBecf02w.jpg Indeed, back to a campaign to scare people from using the roads as ...

Re: Riding a bicycle without brakes
I disagree with all this guff about pedestrians needing to take responsibility for their own safety. Clearly pedestrians do not need a licence to be free to walk the streets: They are allowed to do so whether healthy or unwell, whether blind or deaf, under the influence of many legal drugs such as a...

Re: Flat bottomed steering wheels - why??
I've been reported
I was just wondering 'cos if the wheels are not straight then surely the flat isn't at the bottom of the wheel (so it does not assist entering/exiting the seat as some were saying).

Re: Flat bottomed steering wheels - why??
Do people with flat bottomed steering wheels always park with the wheels straight? I don't (sometimes for good reason, sometimes just 'cos that's where it ended up). Do you dry-steer to bring the flat to the bottom or just need more space (particularly thinking about kerbside town parking where only...

Re: Riding a bicycle without brakes
Err, fixed or not, corner with the pedal on the inside of the turn at the top of its rotation. This would result in skidding on a fixie as the back wheel would not be turning whilst you hold the inside pedal at the top of the rotation. To do as you suggest requires a free-wheel mechanism of some ki...
