Indeed. That's why the DfT have published national guidelines. Unfortunately they appear to have no legal standing :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Re: Unpoliced 20 limits

Where's our Lieutenant Gary Megge? Does anyone on here know of a road where the limit has been raised or re-instated to it's previous level? It wouldn't matter, because the police don't set our speed limits, local councils do. In fact some of the DfT guidance even talks about unreasonably low limit...

Re: Unpoliced 20 limits

.in Avon & Somerset and Wiltshire there are no 'partnerships' - the cameras are run by the local police. There are many police areas where the courses are subcontracted to an external provider like TTC and the provider has no say on who is sent on the course. So in Avon/Somerset are the operato...

Re: Unpoliced 20 limits

However they are being enforced RIGIDLY as the safety camera partnership are always about parked up in them now. Shades of 'Cash Cow' comes to mind. Of course. It's now an industry in it's own right, so will have its own targets, including growth, that any other private industry now has. Much like ...

Re: Unpoliced 20 limits

The uk has sadly moved from 85th to 50th percentile for speed limit setting, and further more there's no requirement for councils to pay any attention to residents, police or government guidelines about appropriate speed. Most councillors appear to have been brainwashed by brake, or believe their vo...

Re: Driving Test Changes

Wouldn't work these days: The candidate should be asked to try to avoid touching the kerb during the manoeuvre. If the candidate starts by reversing, they should be stopped and reminded that the first part of the turn should be carried out in forward gear. The candidate should show proper care for ...

Re: Driving Test Changes

I can foresee candidates not bothering attempting it and taking the driving fault rather than risking a serious or dangerous groping around for a switch/button. It's not exactly rocket science for them to familiarise themselves with the appropriate controls in advance of the test though is it.. Alt...

Re: Driving Test Changes

Sat nav really needs to be expanded... Can the candidate place it at a sensible location so that it's not blocking a significant fraction of the view? Can the candidate ignore an erroneous instruction (eg turn at a level crossing, or wrong way down a 1-way street etc). Would need special software, b...

Re: My Focus RS.

You may be surprised how much a windscreen costs if you offer to pay for it yourself. Indeed. When my Boxster's screen went (silly me left the wiper arm up while changing blades and opened the front boot...) AutoGlass said a "Level 3 technician" would be needed to fit the replacement. A g...
