Re: I'm resigned to driving slower and slower.
Because, the Government and Local Authorities are not interested in ensuring drivers are capable of driving properly. Slow em down, that'll be safer. Might also lead one to question whether there's any point to the AD organisations. Advanced driving is an attitude of mind and it doesn't matter whic...

Re: What Happened?
Even in a short drive there will be dozens of situations in which a collision could occur, if yourself or another road user did not take some action. In the confused and, may I say complex, average High Street with all the 'polite?' giving way and stopping and starting; the poor old machine is goin...

'Simply put, for an advanced driver, is covering considerable mileage in various parts of the world improving their driving? Does it do more so than just covering the same mileage in one's home country?'
I can honestly say that yes it does, without a shadow of a doubt.

Re: What Happened?
The system has been carried over to EASA the European aviation regulator, which is a good thing. I'd imagine that given the amount of car journeys per hour/day it would not be worthwhile to record any but a very small percentage of incidents. There can hardly be a journey any of us take that doesn'...

Re: What Happened?
My father was one of the founders of a system called CHIRP (Confidential Human Factors Incident Reporting Protocol) which was introduced by the RAF to assist with safety. Those who had a close call could use the system to report it without fearing disciplinary action. I believe that some of the bett...

Re: Citigo - 300 miles later.
Being an old fart I still won't take a cold engine over 3k revs even though newer engines are (supposed) not to need such delicacy. The MX5 I use daily warms up nicely in less than half a mile so even the above is of little use these days. Is it not oil temperature which is more important? If so, t...

Re: Citigo - 300 miles later.
The vast majority of drivers won't be in the least bothered about a rev counter; quite a lot of them won't have a clue what it does. It's not unusual to meet people who have been driving for years who cannot/won't read one of the things. A great many of them change gear by speed irrespective of the ...

Re: Autonomous cars - coming to Bristol/south Glos soon
Can the thing look for feet crossing under the front of the bus? I doubt it.
These things will only be any good where there is complete separation of different classes of road user; can you imagine a European city like that? It'd take the entire essence and reason for being out of the place.
