I borrowed a Golf hybrid recently, quite surprising how much road noise you hear when there's no engine to drown it!

I rarely drive autos, so specific advice thread would be interesting, please :)

[My late FiL had a Focus auto, which defaulted to overdrive on - so I used to switch it off to change 'down' for drive through corners]

And, to use the term, be wary of 'lane shear', where one lane is moving substantially faster than another - circumstances where drivers are likely to try to change lane to go with the [faster] flow.

Just be aware of where you place your car ie don't sit in blind spots etc. watch for 'hints' that the driver might be about to change lane etc.

Oh - the motorcycle-specific version of the Highway Code permits this sort of action in any lane under any circumstances.

I don't seem a problem with the manoeuvre, but it could be the [higher] speed of execution that's the issue. And, of course, if the person using the rh lane to negotiate the junction moves to the left ...
