Re: X Factor mocks Advanced Driving

If the grimace was light-hearted rather than mockery, than I wouldn't be too offended or concerned. Humor can actually reach some people far better than a more serious tone.

Re: Smee's test - specifics

Well, to base one's values of signaling purely on when and where one personally observes most crashes is to base it on anecdotal evidence, at best.

Re: Smee's test - specifics

If the signal isn't meaningfull to anyone (even for purposes of conspiciousness) or if there isn't anyone around to see it, I still rather provide a very brief signal. Why? Well, for me there is a legal consideration. In Israel, the law requires that a signal be given at any lane change or, strictl...

Re: Smee's test - specifics

Yes, it's just using the signals to produce conspiciousness during a maneuver. Following the same logic, if I'm pulled at a queue for a right or left turn I'd also keep the signal on until a car comes up behind me. I don't signal at a certain amount of yards or feet ahead of the action - I much rath...

Re: Any ROSPA test tips

When you get into a different car from the one you drove last, it can be useful to accustom yourself to the feel of the brakes. I think more in terms of trying out the feel of the brakes than of testing them[...]It may take the form of just being cautious and aware when applying the brakes for the ...

Re: Any ROSPA test tips

These are standard on all contemporary vehicles. What is not standard on all vehicles is the form of the pretensioner, so it can be appearant to the driver or hidden. They do work in concordence with the airbags. Both are operated by explosives and they are meant to be applied as a one-two punch, wi...

Re: Front vs Rear tyre wear

Actually, it's an example better made at an higher speed. The idea is that an unstable car (as would be the case where the rear is significantly more worn than the front) can reach a speed where - in a straight line - any little excitment (even a small bump) can cause a spin. Still, I hold that if t...

Re: Front vs Rear tyre wear

then would it make a difference if the car is FWD / RWD / 4x4 / ??? Strictly speaking, no. The idea of "good tyres on the back" does not stem from which tyres are connected to the engine, but rather from which tyres are connected to the steering wheel. The tyres are not connected to the w...

Re: Front vs Rear tyre wear

True, but than I wouldn't put worn tyres on any axle. The good tyres belong on all the wheels. And again, I find that by the time tyres become worn, they are already well past the their prime in terms of braking (and cornering) capability, which is in itself reason enough to replace them well in adv...

Re: Front vs Rear tyre wear

It depends on tyre forces. In a front-heavy, front-wheel driven car you'd expect the front to wear at a much higher rate to the rear. The added load, as well as the majority of braking, accelerating and cornering forces being fed through them. However, particularly with braking, Electronic Brake Dis...
