Re: Dissertation survey
Mr Sunak pledged during the Conservative Party leadership election last year to ban smart motorways, labelling them unsafe. He said: “Smart motorways are unpopular because they are unsafe. We need to listen to drivers, be on their side and stop with the pursuit of policies that go against common se...

While I doubt that those already in use will be reverted ... https://inews.co.uk/news/politics/no-new-smart-motorways-planned-concerns-safety-cost-2257652 Some aggresssive enforcement against MLMs would do a significant amount to obviate the need for more lanes. :hit: Although in the most recent ca...

Re: An interesting, if unsettling, development.
About the only upside is the police being swamped by so many reports they can't possibly process them all. And hopefully owners of such devices will be prosecuted when they inevitably speed themselves (find me a driver who /never/ speeds). Afterall, if catching bad driving is so important, why shoul...

Shame the legislators can't see the danger and just ban the bloody things. IIRC Mazda have also said the same.

From camera location, to the hatching separating slip road from main carriageway / start of bend is about 60 metres. HC says braking distance at 70mph is 75m (which a modern car on decent tyres should exceed). I'd assume you're not stopping completely, and there shouldn't be any reaction time as yo...

And some of the A34 off-slips are ridiculous. If you go A34 North to the A4 West, many people have visited the Armco ... Off slips are fine, most cars are competent at stopping. Joining there heading south is much dodgier, especially if you find someone dithering down the slip road and expecting to...

Re: Dissertation survey
Motorways increasingly seem to have empty lane 1s, never mind hard shoulders. Maybe "smart motorways" is just seen as a cheaper approach than educating all the MLMs to use the full capacity of the road already there

And there's more: https://youtube.com/shorts/hPLNAP_kgWQ?feature=share "...and although it doesn't make it clear in the Highway Code.....". But this is the only document a normal road user will reference. No, no they won't. I'd put good money on a "normal" road user not having l...

Re: Off-siding
These are the type of driver that shouldn't have a driving license /efa. The problem is not a lack of technology. The problem is a societal unwillingess to take driving licenses away from people not prepared to put in the minimum requisite effort to be worthy of holding one. And I'd include relying...
