Re: High-Performance Award for bike clobber
To be fair, I heard a similar tale from Snell (when they had a test centre at Farnham). Developing a test standard for horse riders' helmets. Do some sums, estimate how much oompf (SI unit doncha know) a hoss could put into a hoof. Laugh. Halve it. Think for a moment. Halve it again. That'll be as ...

Re: Roundabouts, routeboards and lane choice
Welcome to the forum! There isn't always a right or wrong regarding roundabouts - the Highway Code is interesting as it says: https://www.highwaycodeuk.co.uk/roundabouts.html "watch out for all other road users already on the roundabout; be aware they may not be signalling correctly or at all&q...

Re: An interesting, if unsettling, development.
These days I use a phone and Google for directions. Mine’s able to connect to the car audio via bluetooth so spoken directions are loud and clear. The actual phone however is tucked away out of sight, such as in a side pocket of my jacket. Being invisible the temptation to look at it is removed and...

Re: An interesting, if unsettling, development.
I doubt it is any different to any current in car camera It simply records standard video on a loop and then the rest of the app is the ability to hit a button to say keep the last 30 seconds - at which points it saves that and restarts the loop - the saved section later being available for upload t...

Re: Dissertation survey
on a dual carriageway, most drivers expect to see turnings / junctions / roundabouts / laybys / camera vans on the verge / utilities etc. on a motorway, most drivers expect to see nothing else - they feel that they are in their own private lane and nothing will get in the way - therefore, they switc...

Re: Greetings
I have mixed views on commentaries. If you think about accidents when someone is on the phone, I suspect that the majority of them are not necessarily the holding a phone, but instead focusing elsewhere at the cost of focusing on the drive. A commentary shouldn't have the same effect as it is direct...

Re: New Members.
I think there has also been a seismic shift in how people spend their spare time - Covid made people focus on staying at home / seeing friends and family / etc. Amongst those I know there is more focus on that going forward than individuals pursuing solitary hobbies. Tie that into roads which are be...

Re: Comments from ADI...
I think the point is not that we might choose not to take the overtake, but that we take it with an additional time penalty by being further back… Clearly, not taking the overtake is low risk, but equally adding time to an overtake increases risk… My main point though before we are dragged down a ra...

Re: Comments from ADI...
I needed to be closer if I was looking for an overtake - and that extending the following distance simply extends the length of an overtake, making it considerably more risky The suggestion was a second behind, 2 seconds for a relaxed follow when it was obvious that no overtake would occur If just ...
