Couldn't agree more, Alasdair - but I do think I'm entitled to object to being described as 'nerdy' and 'self-satisfied' by someone who hardly knows me. However, I've made my point and wouldn't want to labour it.

Re: Blues and Twos and Traffic Lights

Correct me if I am wrong, but IIAC the police officer must be in uniform and actually directing traffic. They can't direct you from a vehicle. Nigel. This is where Alastair and the self-satisfied Easyshifter are getting confused too. The defence is not made under the statutory powers to direct traf...

Correct me if I am wrong, but IIAC the police officer must be in uniform and actually directing traffic. They can't direct you from a vehicle. Nigel. Absolutely right - they have to be in a position to see the whole junction and be able to predict the overall effect of their directions. They also h...

Re: Blues and Twos and Traffic Lights

Here's the junction looking back into it. I'd certainly have carefully eased forward and left to let them through there, as there's no chance of causing danger to cross traffic. Looks like three abreast is possible there. And there's all that wasted cycle lane and ASL area as well. PS. No...

Re: Blues and Twos and Traffic Lights

Easyshifter, do you have a GoogleMaps StreetView link for the location where this happened? I've never used this technology before but I think this will find it. It's Loughborough in Leicestershire. I was in Broad Street, waiting for a green light to turn left into Derby Road. As you'll see, my mov...

Re: Blues and Twos and Traffic Lights

I'm going to try one more time,to make this point. Nobody seems to be biting. Then from behind came not only the sound of a siren but two very firm horn notes, clearly saying, ‘Get out of my way’! Listen to the HORN being used to turn the sirens on and off in this video . The HORN is used to toggle...

Re: Blues and Twos and Traffic Lights

I know of drivers who have claimed on various forums that they have been successfully prosecuted for red light camera offences while assisting the police vehicle. They have given examples, with details, and confirmed they had to pay. Unless someone trained in the law can confirm that you can't be p...

Re: Blues and Twos and Traffic Lights

Tough decision for you, the main thing is are you happy with the decision that you took, becasue thats all that matters. I'm happy that it was safe - the crossing was clear and no pedestrians or cyclists in the vicinity, and of course my speed was minute. However, I'm not happy with the idea that I...

Blues and Twos and Traffic Lights

This incident happened to me earlier this week. I knew full-well what the legal position was, but under the pressure of a real situation that isn't always as much help as might be expected. Here's what happened. In a narrow one-way street I approached lights at a town-centre T junction in lane 1 to ...
