Re: Two Chevron rule6
The 2 chevrons sign is confusing but probably better than nothing. I wonder if there is any evidence to show it reduces collisions? Yes it would be interesting to know. It was really illuminating to see how many colleagues interpreted in different ways, although that said pretty much all of them al...

Re: Two Chevron rule
Here's one possibility, if you want some maths so that you can debate it in the pub with the other experts. Travelling at 70mph, stopping distance is 96 metres. So if the car in front is on chevron one, and you are on chevron 3, that's only 80 metres. If you are on chevron 4 you are on 120 metres. ...

Re: Two Chevron rule
Yes but the sign says keep two apart without reference to speed, and in my examples there are different ways of interpreting it. Are you going to blindly obey the sign or use your intelligence and maintain a safe distance? That's my point. I go with two second rule, 4 second rule in wet, 96 metres ...

Re: Two Chevron rule
The chevrons are 40m apart. How many you need to see depends on your speed. Image stolen from a post on another forum... http://thumbsnap.com/s/AI88fVKl.png Yes but the sign says keep two apart without reference to speed, and in my examples there are different ways of interpreting it.

Two Chevron rule
Looking for the collective wisdom please on the sign that says "Keep two chevrons apart" If the first Chevron is numbered one, and the next one, teo, three, etc, is the sign meant to be interpreted as follows; If my vehicle is on top of chevron one, then the car in front is on chevron thre...

Re: Just curious
By instructor, do you mean observer? If so, a few are ADIs, but most are volunteers who have passed the relevant test and are putting something back into their group. The IAM now has a structure for becoming an observer, but when I wanted to become an observer (20 odd years ago), I waws told to do ...

Just curious
A couple of things I heard/read recently prompted a thought. What are the credentials for becoming an IAM or RoSPA instructor? I would have thought you had to be a driving instructor with some form of recognised qualification, but reading that they are volunteers I wondered if they werent all bona f...

Indeed. And that was my point exactly. They should reverse the system. Everything electronic, with hard copy certificate on request by exception ....

Re: Book Review: High Performance Driving By Tom Wisdom
This one is arguably not about 'advanced' driving but it probably was in it's day. it a reprint of an ld 1920's / 1930's book which I got a while back as a gift and it is fantastic (IMHO) https://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Drive-Car-Fascinating-Insight/dp/1445635798/ref=sr_1_5?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=...

Dragging them kicking and screaming into the 21st century .....
I received my RoSPA Silver certificate and examiners report on Monday in the post - a week after the test so quite happy with that and the contents. I wanted to snd it on to my instructor and was going to scan it but I thought why not ask them for an electronic copy - after all it was already typed ...
