Re: Mobile phones

... mobile phone attention degradation is sliding scale from hardly any effect to very serious but I would argue for most people, in most situations and typical use , mobile phones have a serious detrimental effect and on that basis I would support a total ban on use by the driver. You are absolute...

Re: Mobile phones

This point has more weight than it first appears. Just pause for a second: if you see someone doing something extremely foolish whilst driving such as [insert stupid action of choice], is the solution to.... ban that activity by making it illegal? It is the person that is foolish, the activity is j...

Re: Mobile phones

Well in the US at least, NHTSA have waded in: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/nov/23/us-regulators-reduce-road-deaths-smartphone-driving-mode-apple-samsung Wonder how they tell the difference between drivers and passengers (and why for drivers they don't go into "flight" mode :...

Re: Mobile phones

sorry, that is not a state I want to live in - while someone can make a brief hands-free call and do so without degrading their driving sufficiently to become dangerous, then I would wish to support the freedom for drivers to be responsible for making that choice... I go back to my earlier question...

One final anecdote - Dad was a passenger in a car with one of his colleagues, who during the drive had a call on hands free (happ...

Re: Mobile phones

I can keep my eyes on the road at all times, I can prioritise the activities such that I stop talking on the phone if the road needs more concentration etc. That scenario is more akin to a conversation with the person next to me in the car... and is understandably legal No you don't and no it's not...

Research is always biased in favour of whoever is paying for it. I prefer to use my own brain. I understand that may present a challenge for some.

Ah, Silk is Michael Gove, AICMFP.

Re: Mobile phones

''Now go back and read the research about hands free phone use being just as dangerous as hand held'' That must be hugely dependent on how the research was conducted. If the 'hand held' involved dialing a number whilst negotiating a rush hour roundabout, and the 'hands free' involved pressing a but...

Re: Mobile phones

- phones are legislated against and targetted because they are easy to target - that isn't to say we shouldn't target them, it is to say that it explains whey they are selected and controlling fractious children in the back seat is not prohibited :swords: Alasdair Do you believe groups and individu...
