Re: Doing them a dis-service

It appears, to me, that they are trying to do hill starts on the flat; something that irked me something rotten when I was teaching ab initio.
The problem lay in that the pupil would attempt this method of starting off irrespective of the slope, including downhill.

Re: Old school or new school? Both and neither!

Another new voice - and another IAM forum refugee. I joined the IAM in 1971 (does that make me 'old school', I wonder? I guess it depends what you mean by 'old' and by 'school'!) I got a bit concerned last November, with the big 70 approaching, that I might not be as sharp as I should be, so did an...

Re: Old school or new school? Both and neither!

I honestly believe that these days manual gearboxes are only put in some cars for a few reasons: A lot of people like them. These same people may think they are more economical (quite often they are not). A lot of people think they have 'more control'. Or, and probably more important: The particular...

Re: VCDS...

Years ago working for a very large driving school we had Austin Metro's foisted on us (totally and utterly dreadful)
These were the basic models and didn't apparently come with reversing lights; that was until you lifted the carpet and clipped the wires together.

Re: VCDS...

...non-amber lenses for indicators indicators should be consigned to the scrap heap! What's the problem? I trust you're not serious? Many years ago the USA (and Britain) introduced regulations about the size of lights, height from the ground, and separation. Those rules still pertain, but they've b...

Re: Dead steering: no feedback

But enough said. I guess I should just sell an organ then buy a lotus, any lotus, and shut up and enjoy this disappearing delicacy that is a truly talkative steering wheel. Or a caterham. Although until you fix things, that produces an excess of bump steer that makes the car somewhat unpleasa...

Re: All change

ps I've just read a test on the 991 models (I can't be the only person who gets confused by Porsche model numbering) and take what you wrote to be over competence on the part of the car. I think they have to these day otherwise they'd spend half their time in various courts defending themselves... ...
