Re: A few more videos

Some cars disable the throttle if on the brake so would not be possible in them anyway. I haven't come across a system like that. You have, and you've driven them multiple times! (Although the Magnificant Coaten explained how the throttle is cut off perhaps half a second after the start of braking....

Re: A few more videos

Also, I'm not convinced by the suggestion of keeping small amounts of throttle on while braking. I was not convinced either. It reminded me that Reg Local, in his recent video on left foot braking in an automatic car, suggests the same thing of left foot trail braking whilst keeping throttle open a...

Re: A few more videos

Ive had a look at the video. The bend he uses as an example is a tight right hand bend, with rocks on the inside, blocking the view of the road surface. (They ride on the right in the video so a left hand bend for us.) The bend has a static then decreasing limit point up to the apex where the limit ...

Re: A few more videos

Why continue braking when you could be accelerating because the limit point is extending? Have a look at the one (Bret Tkacs) that I linked. He suggests a 3 stage process with TB as #2, moving to that as a crossover just as the exit is visible. I think :) It's the clearest I've seen anyone explain ...

Re: A few more videos

The way I see it is that, like so much else in driving, flexibility is the key. For those bends where the limit point extends before or at hinting/steering input then clearly trail braking (as applicable in road use not track) is not feasible as at the moment the limit point moves away the throttle...

Re: A few more videos

I don't understand the first question. For me in the situation you describe I'd cover the brakes (even in my car), but not have them on. It's easier on the bike as all the controls are readily to hand/feet all the time. Maybe a light touch on the brake rather than merely covering the brake would ma...

Re: Declining Standards

Today I believe I had one theory I had confirmed that drivers and bikers so often don't take into account traffic coming the other way and the effect that has on reducing stopping distance. I was following a car that was closing on a cyclist in front of him. B road just wide enough for two cars to p...

Declining Standards

Has anyone else noticed a sharp decline in the standard of driving/riding over the last few months? If so has anyone any idea why?
Almost on every trip now I witness dangerous driving. Amongst the most common are overtaking cyclists (particularly on blind bends) and pulling out from side turnings.

Re: A few more videos

So where does the line lie between going into the corner 'too fast' and waiting for the limit point to start moving away? What is the extended very light braking giving you? I don't understand the first question. Like you I prefer going in a little slower, what I call "below your comfort level...
