Re: Graduated licensing again
I agree there. Placing restrictions on new drivers is not the answer. A skill will only be learned by performing a task. Learners who learn during winter months will possibly have the odd lesson in the dark, but those whose lessons are primarily Spring, Summer, and early Autumn will probably not. Bu...

Re: Learners on motorways
When teaching my children to drive, I took them on an NSL dual carriageway early on (and obviously without dual controls). They can be quite easy roads to drive on. I think the reason for the current prohibition of learner drivers from using motorways was not primarily for safety but to avoid disru...

Re: Learners on motorways
" The DVSA have announced that driving instructors will be allowed to take learners on motorways from 4 June 2018. Only approved driving instructors with dual controlled cars will be allowed to give motorway lessons. They will only do this if they are confident the learner has the skills and k...

Re: Dangerous safety system?
I would expect the manufacturer to detail in the manual how their systems work Is that expect in the literal sense of the word, or in what would happen in a fantasy utopian world? Manuals dont normally explain fairly simple systems on cars, let alone the complex algorithms at play in autonomous dri...

Re: Driving instructors and learners - do they drive like each other?
I would imagine that turning off a "Safety Aid" would have serious implications on ones insurance in the event of an accident on the public road, possibly invalidating the insurance.

Re: Graduated licensing again
I learnt in my parents cars. I taught all three of my children in our cars. There were no dual controls involved, no damage was done, and nothing dangerous happened. On the other hand there was some swapping between seats for demonstration purposes. And there was less time pressure than with a paid...

Re: Graduated licensing again
Duals should only be used by the instructor where there is likely to be a safety issue. A demonstration of clutch control by the instuctor using the dual clutch can be usefull to help a pupil understand what they are aiming to achieve, but the instructor should emphasise that they have much more exp...

Re: Time lapse of highwat crash in Iowa
IMHO, the two second rule only allows one to stop using emergency braking, and that's only if your paying attention. A three second gap allows better forward vision and more time to reactin a less evasive manner.
