Re: 'Safe driving' Apps - Insurance company

Perhaps the thought is that drivers who believe they drive safely will self-select and that will be a useful selection. Hmmm . . . a bit like 'Doing the IAM' to get an insurance discount? :? Generally doomed to disappointment! IAM Select most often just match the best price available elsewhere. But...

Re: Hello from West Sussex

Do not only mention the hazard, but also what you are going to do about it: 'Blind entrance on the left, losing speed and positioning away from it'.

Re: First Time Automatic Owner

Technical expert? In marketing, perhaps. Your dealer's service manager might know the answers. Have you tried? I think you should be able to tell if the clutch is fully disengaged in the different situations. I have not heard of clutches in dual-clutch cars wearing out. When I had a dual-clutch M3 ...

Re: 'Safe driving' Apps - Insurance company

I have never come across any well-informed input by an insider about the black box industry. How are they calibrated, is there sound statistical evidence of a correlation between attributes which can be assessed by a black box and accident risk, etc. I find it very credible that having a black box f...

Re: Paying above list price for a car.

Hmm, I want a Ford Focus RS, there's a year waiting list but some are currently available at a premium from official Ford dealers and independents. So, to pay an excess or not? I have offered below asking to two Ford dealers, yet to have a reply. I thought my son was quite sensible to buy one (and ...

Re: 'Safe driving' Apps - Insurance company

Being monitored by a black box for harsh braking will put people off braking hard to avoid going over traffic lights just changed to red. The box will see the braking but not going through the red light. I think the answer to that would be that you shouldn't need to brake in a harsh manner for ligh...

Re: First Time Automatic Owner

The answer to both hill start and creep may be applying both brake and accelerator at the same time. In the case of hill start, use the handbrake, not the foot brake, so hill start assist is not activated, and apply a little gas just before you release the hand brake. For parking creep, apply a litt...

Re: What would an "advanced driver" autonomous car do...?

I decided to abort the second overtake and pull in behind which involved heavy braking while pulling the car over to the left. Manoeuvre complete I was quite startled to find myself back out in the middle lane and so had to perform it over again  mrs gannet by this point was somewhat confuse...

Re: 'Safe driving' Apps - Insurance company

Presumably, capable drivers are not those who decide the parameters. It's, again, dumbing down, lcd and no interest in raising standards. It would certainly be interesting to see how it scored, say an IAM masters or Rospa gold drive. I think we know - badly (based on the experience of a couple of m...
