Re: Smee's test - specifics
Smee asked that the test write-up didn't become a discussion, so a new thread to ask about some point's noted: 1. Signalling too late on motorway exit -I signalled at the 200 yard marker . . . it was late. 2. He said he wouldn’t have used the indicator to go from lane 2 back into lane 1. Not sure I...

Re: Any ROSPA test tips
It is valid for the examiner to want to understand that the examinee knows the controls / knows the car is safe to drive - Alasdair But surely the knowledge would have come from the fact that we'd discussed beforehand that I've had the car six years and covered 150,000 miles in it ........ Absolute...

Re: Any ROSPA test tips
Absolutely, my point being that it makes sense to cover the topic, it doesn't make sense to be anal about making the examinee prove what is obvious... Alasdair Agreed. Unfortunately this tendency towards OCD by some examiners stems from their police driving school backgrounds where they were requir...

Re: Any ROSPA test tips
For example, if I see a warning sign ahead for "Road Narrows", that knowledge will be... "in my processing of what's upcoming" . The sign gives me advance warning of a hazard that I probably may not yet be able to see. Therefore I'll be looking for where the road narrows By the ...

Very good advice for TVR owners.

Re: Any ROSPA test tips
I too never understand asking what the last sign was, and it's one question I can still never answer.... Because well it's in the past and therefore not in my processing of what's upcoming! Not too sure I follow that line of thought. For example, if I see a warning sign ahead for "Road Narrows...

Re: ROSPA - "you need a place background to get gold"
Thank you for all your replies. ... The comments could be construed not so much as you HAVE to have a police background but rather you need to be of the standard of a police driver. But either way, as far as I can establish, both comments aren't accurate, and by that I mean Rospa Gold standard may ...

Re: ROSPA - "you need a place background to get gold"
Well I've no affiliation with RoSPA nor reputation to defend, but my questions would be the same whether this was an AD topic or anything else: How did you hear of the examiner's response? Presumably from your instructor? What was your instructor's attitude to the examiner's reported attitude? Were...

Re: Steering input
Not necessarily. I steer predictivelly by anticipating the severity of the bend and prepositioning (usually) just the hand in the direction of the bend and pull the wheel. The opposite hand I keep in place, so the pulling hand "draws" the wheel away from under it and, if the bend assesmen...

Re: Steering input
Just to avoid any doubt, what do you mean by 'predictive' in this context? Do you estimate the amount of lock that you will need before the corner and (pre)position your hands accordingly? If so, how do you approach blind corners? With "blind" corners the severity of the curve of the bend...
