Re: RoADAR re-branding and new constitution

I remember back in the 1990s when the Met was trialling different high performance cars, there was a Porsche Club Sport something or other, an M3 and other similar vehicles. Porsche 968, BMW M3 and err Rover 220 turbo coupe. Two failed on the grounds of price and the other because if you sneezed, y...

Re: Dead steering: no feedback

Unfortunately, I don't live in the Netherlands There are a few here who no doubt think that unfortunate too... Not to mention the effects of weight on handling and wear and tear on brakes and tyres etc. And at higher speeds, power steering isn't necessary anyway. No effect on handling - ...

Re: Dead steering: no feedback

Needing a chunk of power to permanently drive a hydraulic pump and thus wasting fuel all the time is inferior to running an electric motor as and when the steering is turned. We have a car that has an electric pump driving the hydraulic system which seems like a nice compromise. I suppose it'll be ...

Re: Dead steering: no feedback

Because the weight of a car has next to no effect on fuel consumption on the flat. You've only got rolling resistance (Which is about 0.01 times the vehicle weight) and aerodynamic resistance (A function of forward speed squared) to deal with above and beyond the various frictional bits to do with g...

Re: Sledgehammer vs Nut?

Thing is, it's an absolutely pointless piece of paper. It isn't backed by a power of arrest and, like all injunctions it has to be properly served before it could be of even the vaguest use. So, if you chose to perhaps turn up on the border of Harlow, and decide to ride through it, on convoy, then u...

Re: VCDS...

As I understand it, the fog lights in a cornering light system have a separate reflector that casts the light much more to the side than a fog. Even if you can enable in software, you may not have the hardware.

Personally, I can't see much of a benefit...

Re: All change

Nowt wrong with a swing axle, as long as you do it right. Pinzgauers do, but the cost of the differential is double normal.

Watching an air suspension one launch is somewhat enlightening.

Re: All change

I'm guessing that probably had just as much of an influence over how well it has sold that the fact it got good reviews because of its handling. I agree with you that the motoring public have absolutely no interest in handling and feedback, but a lot of sales were generated from the fact that it 'f...

Re: All change

ps I've just read a test on the 991 models (I can't be the only person who gets confused by Porsche model numbering) and take what you wrote to be over competence on the part of the car. I think they have to these day otherwise they'd spend half their time in various courts defending themselves... ...

Re: All change

I'm well aware that I'm an edge case here... But even amongst the 'sportier' car manufacturers, there's been a huge move towards 'easy' over the last 20 years with a concurrent rise in 'over competent'. Drive a 1989 911 back-to-back with the latest 991 model version and it's obvious. This may be wh...
