Re: Limited Slip Diffs?

Erm, it's not an electronic aid that "cuts in". It's a mechanical thing that is doing its stuff whenever the wheels aren't travelling in a straight line (hence some people argue that LSDs compromise handling and make cars more understeery, since the default tendency is to want to keep the ...

Re: Masters assessment

Looking only at the immediate foreground leads to a drive that totally reactive rather than predictive. There will be no awareness of developing hazards in the middle distance or the tell-tale sea of brake lights in the far distance. It is a completely short-sighted (no pun intended) way to drive a...

+1 Plus, he said that there was no point whatsoever in developing observation. All he needed to look at was the distance he could stop in at his speed. so travelling at 30mph, he only needed to know what was happening 75 feet away. Now that explains a lot ... an awful lot! It's an interesting viewp...

Re: Masters assessment

Several instructors near me have the Audi A1 TDi. According to one of my ex (test passed) pupils, his freind learnt with one of them. Apparently they have something called Clutch Assist which, IIAC, makes it virtually impossible to stall. The consequence of this was, that when his freind tried to d...

Is it a human that programmes the robot? ;) https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/599wnz/germany-has-created-the-worlds-first-ethical-guidelines-for-driverless-cars Largely it isn't a human that programs the car. They write a program that can learn (to drive), and then encourage it to do so. T...

Re: 'Advanced' - a solicitor writes

Always best to tone down the positioning on a bike if being followed closely by a car. It can/does cause confusion. Some may even think you are trying to block them in some way. If you are being followed closely, perhaps you are holding them up, and should cooperate and let them overtake you? Of co...

Re: 'Advanced' - a solicitor writes

I've expected witnesses to think I'm drunk when I'm merely dodging potholes and sunken drains  As for court, I thought we were supposed to get a jury of our peers, so really it shouldn't be a jury of anyone unless they're also advanced trained. It's an interesting precedent for autonomous cars...
