Re: Safety systems are there to be gamed...
It shouldn't be too difficult to think up a scenario for an impending collision where the autonomous car you are travelling in will sacrifice your life (or at least seriously injure you) rather than taking evasive action that would/could maim or kill others. Can you come up with one? Approaching a ...

Re: Safety systems are there to be gamed...
We know how fast pedestrians can move sideways (it's not an infinite speed) and have automatic cars moderate their speed when passing humans at that distance, such that any impact will not do significant harm (another calculable limit that we can stay well below). This is likely to mean that vehicl...

Re: Pros and cons of hi-vis
. . . workers feel safer when tthey're stood still close to their vehicle. Unfortunately, that vehicle is likely to bd more conspicuous than the worker. So if that person steps out the approaching driver is likely to be dazzled by the vehicle's retro-reflective material and beacons. What am I missi...

Re: Pros and cons of hi-vis
There's a clear progression, for example the typical 'SMIDSY' situation: Driver arrives at junction . . . 1 Doesn't look 2 Looks, but rider is obscured (eg car door pillar, street furniture, other vehicle) [ie 'not visible'] 3 Looks, but doesn't notice the rider 4 Looks, notices the rider, but make...
