Re: Off-siding

I was a bit dubious about 4 1/4 minutes. From rewatching it and looking on Google Maps, there's a right kink before the left, so the 'moving across' was more like holding the view, and I thought the lead bike was moving in as the vision was closing down, just before the road started to bend left. I...

Been having fun trying to work out the roads used in the video. I bet someone has already done this, but it's fun doing it myself! Found the first roundabout, and the last roads, so maybe I can figure out where they go between.

Re: Off-siding

You may adopt or hold an offside position to maintain an existing view for as long as it is safe to do so. You may not adopt an offside position in order to seek a view that you do not already have. At the risk of being needlessly argumentative, I am firmly of the opinion that the potential hazard ...

Re: Off-siding

To offside on the approach to a left hand bend where it is not fully open, ie full view on the nearside, on the approach is not acceptable. The devil is always in the detail; completely blind is one thing, but some bends appear blind while approaching on the nearside while retaining a much longer v...

Re: Off-siding

It might be that view is lost to the following right hand bend. The Streetview camera is probably a lot higher than eye level but, to me, it appears that on approach the driver would have a very good view all the way along the right side of the road to the crest. Here are a couple where, if it's cl...

If it's safe and it enables you to see more, then I think it's fine. Maybe there are other advantages. I remember a few kinks that I straighten, given the opportunity. And I generally off-side while over-taking. Given the IAM syllabus still includes over-taking ...

Re: Greetings

the mental effort of generating and saying commentary takes potential concentration away from the scene around you. I wonder if commentary might be useful in helping to develop some reserve mental capacity. Apart from that, if I'm in the car I prefer drivers concentrate on driving. I don’t think an...

Re: Greetings

Welcome. I spent much of that time in 2018 practising my commentary - radio always off and babbling away to myself, as well as any unfortunate passengers, on every journey. Have you thought about what or when you are saying? I know that sounds immediately weird but ... you might be saying the kinds ...

Re: New Members.

More than two years and still zero input from new members. That's unfair, the last post from a new member was less than a year ago. In some ways what helped previously were the frequent driving days, in which forum members could meet in small groups and practice driving together. There's been a goo...
