Re: Two Chevron rule6

A 2 second gap is a great and easy to judge way of keeping a reasonable gap...it's less than the highway code stopping distance - @ 70mph 2 seconds is 62m but it's considerably more than many drivers leave. It's a good guide and bearing in mind there are very few situations where the hazard ahead wi...

texting and driving

I came across this road safety vid on twitter and have shared it on a car forum and it's getting some good responses from some young, non-advanced drivers. yf9Jw4xZY-s Personally I think these Irish vids are quite well done - I'd like to see the UK do the same. You might want to share it across your...

Re: Just curious

So back on thread...yes IAM 'Observers' and ROSPA 'Tutors' are volunteers who have received extra training after passing the advanced test. Most are not ADI's. In the IAM RoadSmart's case...Observers are trained following a competency-based system and are accredited by the IMI (Institute of the Moto...

Re: X Factor mocks Advanced Driving

OK - so I took the time to actually use the ITV player and catch up on this national tv coverage of advanced driving! What an annoying thing the ITV 'player' is...forced adverts so you can't skip through... http://www.itv.com/hub/the-x-factor/1a8647a0220 24 minutes in. Yes quite mocking but they did...

Re: That Tesla 'autopilot' fatal crash

I agree the aviation safety levels would be very difficult to reproduce in cars - it's a much less controlled environment. Hacking is a real issue...I would hope part of the type approval would look at software security and fail-safe modes. Also, imagine having to run antivirus on your car's systems?

But regardless, airliner safety has never been better. Last fatal crash from an aircraft landing or taking off from Heathrow was in 1972...not bad for one of the busiest airports in the world.

Re: That Tesla 'autopilot' fatal crash

I'm not a lawyer, however even I can see that those manufacturers are laying theirselves open to large litigation claims. That the claims will not involve direct, rather than remote actions, will probably mean compensation will be greater. Yes - that's the point...the manufacturers are the designer...
