Re: 20mph alternatives
Thing is, when driving most of these side roads (single file, weaving between continuous cars parked on pavements and verges, lots of houses), no sensible driver will be going that fast regardless of speed limits, and might as well be NSL. So do these particular 20 limits actually serve any purpose...

. I have heard that Wales is moving towards 20 as the default in built-up areas, but that is not apparent round where I am staying. A week to go... https://www.gov.wales/introducing-default-20mph-speed-limits Good luck in border towns, where AIUI there will be no requirement for signage but the lim...

Re: 20mph alternatives
I’d actually support zero tolerance of 30s but there’s an irony… several, maybe most, of the pro-20 campaigners already seem to have been ticketed by a mobile 30 camera in our own village. These seem to be often the same individuals suggesting that 25 in a 20 would be fine. Ah, well now you're into...

Re: 20mph alternatives
That’s interesting, thanks. But by ‘adhering’, do mean <= 20mph, or maybe 25-ish? The latter is what I’ve seen some places, and seems to be seen as an acceptable goal by parish councils, despite criminalising drivers who previously obeyed 30 limits. I'd rather see (widely advertised) zero tolerance...

Re: 20mph alternatives
Sadly my only advice is don't waste your time. You're dealing with the hard of thinking and unwilling to listen. /voe.
If you really want to challenge, ask how 20mph will address any of their concerns (I'd argue it may make noise worse as folk will be in a lower gear), but you won't get anywhere.

Re: Speed limit compliance
2) What does "free flowing traffic" mean? Because if there's a train of vehicles, only the speed of the first should be measured (as the others are presumably being held up at least to some extent by it, otherwise there wouldn't be a train) When I've been involved with work where that phr...

Re: Speed limit compliance
Well for starters, their methodology sucks. 1) The counters are not invisible, so you don't know what effect they have on the traffic that observes them 2) What does "free flowing traffic" mean? Because if there's a train of vehicles, only the speed of the first should be measured (as the ...

Re: latest speed cameras
I'm certainly interested to see how well in car driver monitoring is going to work. I suspect rather badly, because if the calibration was set to a useful level, the number and frequency of drivers that would get berated by the system would quickly put folk off buying the models that continually nud...

Horse wrote:Yup. I'm having to work harder, instead, on braking earlier and get on the drive earlier to ensure it's driven from the start of the turn. That, in turn, needs earlier braking, and there's not much engine braking.
Doesn't need to be earlier, just firmer.

Re: Driving to the conditions?
Good reason to keep doing it and keep them used to it. Otherwise we're all heading for men with red flags.... Don't know about cars, but for riders overtaking is one of the three 'gotchas', typically with very poor outcomes - not something to 'get used to'. Perhaps ironically, the answer to your au...
