Re: Saying hello from a government mandated safe distance
An alternative would be a BMW 330d or 335d Touring, both capable of good progress and for the performance return impressive mpg. A later Audi RS6 with the 4.0l V8 is also very practicable. Several years ago I had an early 4.2 RS6, ave 19mpg over 40k miles, great performance but outside normal mainte...

Recent drives in Europe
During a holiday in Mallorca last year I found some excellent driving roads, even in the holiday rent-a-jaloppy. Several months later I found two of the roads on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1LhUzL3qdU&t=152s and following the series of Greatest European driving roads on Youtube I dr...

Re: Ultra low emmission zone
On YouTube look for Harry's Garage and his road trip to see the northern lights in a 1969 RR Silver Shadow that was purchased off ebay for less than £5k, a great adventure. Then you can find his road trip to the Sahara desert in a Ferrari Testarossa.

Re: Use of ZF 8-speed auto gearbox (BMW and other makes)
My old RS6 which I've had for 4yrs or so has a 5speed auto with normal, sport and manual modes. Changing gear on the stick shift or paddles which I prefer. Paddles used with hands at qtr to three. If using manual mode the only time I use the stick is pulling out of junctions because you lose the rel...

Re: Driving in the middle of London
I'm in a borough of London so have the daily joy of suburban driving and the commute on the west side of the M25!! Noticeable difference between driving the MGTF or the Discovery, size does matter. Worst place I've driven is Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, common to see vehicles taking the shortest route even...

Re: Damaged new car
Garage has been honest and told him about the accident. The repair should be unrecorded interms of any future Hpi type checks, but does the dealer / car company keep a record on their database that may affect future trade-in value? Does the new car warranty take precedence over the local repair, nor...
