Re: EU - should the UK have joined the Euro currency?

In my opinion yes we should have. For the Euro to survive in the longer term the Eurozone must introduce an open, transparent and effective fiscal transfer mechanism. A mechanism whereby Brussels can rapidly transfer funds to regions (read, countries) which it deems are in urgent, or long-term, nee...

Re: EU - should the UK have joined the Euro currency?

This is really a question for people who wish to remain in the European Union. I'm interested in this because I don't remember any discussion, either face to face, in news or social media, suggesting that the UK should stop using Sterling in favour of the Euro. Is it because, fundamentally, people ...

Mr Triquet, I put it to you, although Mr Silk is a Smooth talker is it not unreasonable to ask the question... is his philosophy one that can be regarded as Safe, Accurate and under Complete Intellectual Control at all times?

Re: EU - where did it go wrong?

The question that needs to be addressed is... are we going to attempt to negotiate free access to the single market, and if we are, how are we going to negotiate an exemption to the EU's condition of free movement of labour? Although one of the four pillars of EEA membership is free movement of peo...

Re: EU - where did it go wrong?

If those in the UK parliament don't do what you want (or do what you don't want), you can vote them out. That isn't the case with the EU. That is the real issue for many, which I'm sure you know, even if you pretend that you think it's to do with being heard..[my emphasis] That's just a little bit ...

Re: Censorship and derailment

It would have seemed quite normal to me had the original offending post been moved to a new thread with a comment that that had been done because it represented excessive thread drift. I don't think that would have generated the sort of discomfort which simply deleting it without explanation has do...

Re: The EU - Leave or Remain?

P.S. We would all do well to realise that the leave camp is not made up of idealistic old fogies trying to get back to some long forgotten dream. That is pure simplistic claptrap of the worst kind; it weakens the argument of any remainer that uses it, and is either foolhardy ignorance or the deviou...

Re: The EU - Leave or Remain?

We voted to leave for what we believed were the right reasons, and that includes caring about our children and the next generation just as much as you or anybody else. Here is another example of vagueness of purpose. I'm convinced of you're complete sincerity in your stated objectives, but what doe...

Re: The EU - Leave or Remain?

I'm confused about what you mean by freedom and independence. A brief look through history will tell you that we have never had either of those; we've not had complete freedom from our neighbours nor complete independence from them. If we are doing that now, gaining true independence and genuine fr...
