Just found this little gem from the1988 book IAM Motorway Driving, under speed "Where the 70 mph limit is concerned, something of an anomaly exists. The Institute of Advanced Motorists, along with other motoring organisations, has been pressing for years for the maximum to be raised to 80 mph. ...

So 88% of collisions are due to human error, obviously can't do anything about that!! so let the car do it simples.

For years it has been if a pedestrian was hit at 20mph they would be injured but survive, at 30mph they would be seriously injured but may survive, at 40mph they would probably be killed. A very experienced driver pointed out, how about NOT hitting them at all! The true value of training.

So are you folk who are IAM members going to quit in disgust (and make it clear exactly why you are quitting)? Well found, excellent explanation. I can see a lot of us out there waiting quite a while while the pedestrian/cyclist realises they CAN go. Just have to get used to it I suppose.
