Re: Braking
But Dave, surely this matching of expectations must only be true to a degree. If it was universally true, than we wouldn't be advanced drivers since most "others" aren't....

Re: Braking
To me, the challenge of braking effectivelly has little to do with braking in of itself, but rather with what you achieve by braking in terms of dealing with the hazard ahead and dealing with the hazards presented by traffic around the client or myself. This is one reason why I dissapprove of not us...

Re: Survey on USA teens - driving distractions
What does surprise me is the lack of eating or drinking while driving being citated at a distraction that teenage drivers take part in while driving. I'ts very common. I assume that, since the US authorities are very focused on the subject of cellphone use and particularly texting (which properly pl...

Re: Cornering...
How quickly, depends on how fast I'm going. If I'm going rather slowly (think: Supermarket car park), then fairly quick steering movements won't be any issue, but the faster I'm going, the more gradual my steering actions are. Doing 50 and turning the wheel through 1/3rd of a turn suddenly is proba...

Re: Cornering...
If the road curves to the left, I turn the steering wheel in the appropriate direction to get the car to follow the road. I do try to be smooth with the steering, rather than jerking the wheel around. If you are slow enough to stop in time, and you are not jerky with your inputs than that's fine. N...

Re: Cornering...
I admit I don't like the term "hinting" for a couple of reasons. To begin with, it sounds like a nudging action of the wheel seperate to the actual steering input - so there is a change in the rate of steering (or a pause alltogether) between the hinting motion and starting to steer for th...

Re: Cornering...
Personally, I typically start to slow down quite early, but if there isn't traffic behind me than ramping up the brakes later might be a good idea, as the firmer brake pedal offers more control. I'd also aim to slow down as to time my arrival to a bend after another, faster driver has had his go at ...

Re: The most difficult aspect of Advanced Driving
Corner entry speed for slow corners such as junctions. Lately I find I'm always still braking going into the corner. "Technically"' I'm putting more weight of the front wheels and as a result increasing grip....assuming I'm not way past the grip levels :( but at 10mph I don't think trail ...

Re: Advanced Drivers of America
Having been to the US for ages, but I think that over-generalising on US driving road (or lack thereof) is the result of ignoring the differences between the different states in the union. They are fifty different states, some profoundly different to the others. They are different in topography as w...

Re: Road Safety and Advanced Driving in Israel
Actually, last year, Alternativi quoted 100,854 clients, but to be fair some of those only did a short experience of driving around in a sports car with a professional driver for a couple of hours, without much feedback going on. 70 or 80 thousand is more like the number of people that actually did ...
