Re: Upgrade Tesla

I remember a classic on fairly modern VW - You have a camera type thing installed for the adaptive cruise control option, however the same camera also is used for traffic sign recognition, which is a several hundred £££ option on top. With VCDS it just takes a few ticks in the coding to activate it,...

Re: Interesting AD decision to share

Did you turn left off the B3180? There were a couple of places to pull over (one road and some drive ways), but there were some double white lines too. I'd have no hesitation about keeping ahead of them (ambulance/fire) till a sensible place - it's like being followed by a biker - they're fast enou...

Re: Interesting AD decision to share

It's an interesting point would I have acted differently if an emergency "car" not an ambulance. In all honesty when I made my decision I suspect I hadn't really identified the type of vehicle it was so actually could have been a police vehicle. Looking back, as it got a bit closer I think...

Re: Interesting AD decision to share

The 50mph limit is along the whole stretch between Exeter and Sidmouth. Some of the road maybe warrants it. There are some junctions. :) I think my issue was perhaps my desire to not hold up the ambulance was greater than my desire to not break the law (such as running red light) but it was definite...

Re: Interesting AD decision to share

Well, one thing is for sure, the ambulance was not doing 50 - but they have their exemptions and I do not. I felt it was safer to do what I did - I was just curious how others might have done it differently. I "might" have got away with sticking to 50, but by the time I reached the garage ...

Interesting AD decision to share

This little story to me was kind of instinctive but feel my training did help. Picture this I pulled out of a crossroads into a 50mph limit. Road is winding, double lines down the middle. After only about 400 yards of pulling out on this road I became aware of blue lights in the mirror and realised ...

Re: Driving with DSG

PS if in manual you can generally go back to D by pulling and holding the right hand paddle. I generally use manual or D, not sport D and not using a paddle where it is going to revert to D when it chooses - I want to go back to D when I choose. I didn't know this - Can you tell I've not driven DSG...

Re: Driving with DSG

Do you have to switch to manual to do this? In my Renault EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch ... marketing!) if I flick down a gear or two for a descent it will only hold that for around 5-6 seconds then revert to full auto. Instead I move to manual and pick the gear I want for the descent and then switch ...

Driving with DSG

For a little while I will be driving a DSG car - Audi A3 2.0 TDI. It was a cheap project I picked up for £400 and spent another £300 on repairs to get through MOT. So I figured I might as well use it, especially as I have very little experience of DSG (A bit of normal auto use only) Currently the on...

Re: 15000 miles later

Do you let the clutch in while you blip the throttle? If not, what does it achieve? Sorry just seen this. Yes, the blip will be done with clutch depressed so its definitely not double declutching - only one clutch movement. All I am really doing is rather than letting the clutch engagement bring th...
