Re: Use of ZF 8-speed auto gearbox (BMW and other makes)

That's how I taught learners. Use enough gas to build speed up sufficiently to be able to take second whilst the steering is set when moving off from a standstill at a roundabout. If they were too gentle with the gas they would go round in first, most uncomfortable. I had an associate a few years ag...

Re: Pedestrian killed by self driving car.

"The vehicle operator is relied on to intervene and take action. The system is not designed to alert the operator."

It's totally pointless then.

Re: On Potholes and Positioning

And despite the appalling state of our roads, Cambs council can still find money for pointless speed limit reductions :bash: :bash: :bash: For instance changing this short link section to a 40. How much money have they pissed away on that? :soap: Same down here in Dorset. And loads of money wasted ...

Re: Clutch - heel & toe

I can pivot my ankle a little, then I slide my heel, and finally I have to lift my foot. I have size 7 shoes, so someone like my daughter with size 3 shoes is going to have to lift their foot from virtually the start of releasing the clutch.

Re: Potential downside of speed enforcement?

These two roads have recently been reduced to 40mph. The dual carriageway was 70mph a few years ago. Then it was reduced to 50mph, and a couple of weeks ago reduced to 40mph, probably due to trafic lights being installed at a junction nearer to Poole. And yes, Dorset "Road Safety" do frequ...

Re: Potential downside of speed enforcement?

... you have to keep an eye on the speedo... I think that a lot of people do watch their speedo too much if they are sticking to the limits. How many of us do that, or do we set our speed and then listen to the engine? As I can't see the speed of my Fiesta below 80mph from the passenger seat I am v...

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll have to read the boring bits more thoroughly in future.

Re: Insurance again.

I cancelled my insurance with Adrian Flux today but, firstly the amount of the policy cost refundable had altered considerably since I phoned on Monday. When I enquired of the reason, I was told that the amount I was told on Monday was only if I took up another policy with them. I did not do this as...

Re: Insurance again.

The car is insured for driving instruction, SD&P. My NCD is nine years protected. My wifes neices daughter is 24. The issue could be that she is not immediate family and that she lives at a different address. I have decided to cancel the instructor policy and insure with Admiral as they seemed t...

Insurance again.

For the past eighteen months I have been pondering retiring, so for the last six months I have been winding down and not taking on any new pupils. My last paying pupil passed her test two weeks ago leaving me with my wifes neices daughter who is non paying. My ADI licence expires in September and I ...
