Re: Parliament Briefing Papers
so speed which is appropriate or inappropriate (but not particularly inappropriate) for road or traffic conditions is not dangerous driving Yes the English courts have ruled that evidence of speeding is not in isolation evidence of DD. The Scottish courts have taken the opposite view and it is quit...

Re: Ban on Government funding for lobbying
fair points - I have really enjoyed that programme on television where the boss goes back to the floor and works anonymously as a member of staff - it is as you say a realisation of the vast difference between what is happening and what (in most cases) they assume / hope / think / believe is happen...

Re: Ban on Government funding for lobbying
I think it might be a generalisation to say that businesses lack empathy - I run my own, and advise a number of businesses, the majority actually can show a lot of empathy, I will admit I was thinking in terms of the multinational/PLC. Empathy tends to be more readily apparent in smaller companies ...

Re: What Happened?
So do people here think there should be a nationwide Road Accident Investigation Branch (like the Aviation: AAIB and Marine: MAIB) that would formally investigate all serious collisions, apportion blame and hand the details to the CPS as well as suggesting improvements in car design, road engineeri...

Re: Ban on Government funding for lobbying
Can you tell me more about the money Brake gets from the MoJ - is this 'victim support' grants? Not really. All that's in the public domain as far as I am aware, is a brief mention of the existence of grants in a press release - the accounts do not separate out public sector grants. One would presu...

Re: Ban on Government funding for lobbying
I agree government money *shouldn't be used for lobbying government but why shouldn't donations from the public? If I support a charity's aims, then I would expect it to promote and 'lobby' anyone and everyone. I've no problems with the idea of organisations wishing to lobby the government receivin...

Re: Smoooth . . . or not?
I'd be wary of comparing the hand movements of a road driver with that of a race driver. The steering setup is very different in race cars to road cars and the manner in which you have to operate the steering control has to change as a result. Smoothness also means something different on the racetra...

I'd not want to be passing a cyclist there - not even if the double white lines weren't there.

Re: Getting Started/Putting it into practise!
Hi Craig, Best thing would be to sign up for an IAM or ROSPA course - I have to agree with Martin. The books/videos are excellent and you will definitely pick stuff up that will improve your driving if you apply them. But.... We all have very ingrained bad habits, not all of which we are aware of -...
