Re: Off-siding

This road used to be on my daily commute, predating my IAM membership. It’s NSL, note the ‘kink’ in the distance. https://maps.app.goo.gl/Vx2ZYArmC8KTdpW46?g_st=im At that location, in good conditions and if I had the road to myself, I would always pull right over to the offside which gave me a gre...

Re: Greetings

I enjoy giving commentary which I consider an interesting skill in itself. It has side benefits of preventing distractions unrelated to the driving task, and encouraging you to search out things which should influence the driving plan, and help you think about what to do about them. Like most drivin...

Mark, you and John are both very kind. I’m always happy to listen to you both whilst driving. Hopefully, I’ll be back in action in a few months time and look forward to driving again with yourselves and others on here. :)

I'm looking fwd to it. Hope things are progressing well.

Re: New Members.

Yes, I agree with that approach. The test requirements don't mean - hopefully - that nothing else can be covered. But ... how much time and input does "how to be the best driver they can be" take? For some, it could probably be years? Indeed so, for most of us. I imagine John talks about ...

Re: Young Drivers (again)

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that £88 an hour is a bit excessive for an hour’s driving lesson? I know that prices will have increased since I had my driving lessons @ 5/- (25p) an hour, but £88, really? I would get out more but fuel is too expensive. I gave up driving when petrol got to...

Re: Has IAM Roadsmart given up on advanced training?

On Skills Days, I'm interested in this bit on the website:

"having been paired with an instructor who is suitably matched to your own experience and skill level."

Who do they use as instructors? And how do they go about that matching process?

Re: Young Drivers (again)

It's also worth looking at Young Driver: https://www.youngdriver.eu/lessons_and_experiences You can buy one lesson at a time, so you aren't committed to a whole week in one go or going every single week. And the instructors are, in my experience, excellent at making safe driving fun for teenagers. ...

Re: Young Drivers (again)

I just watched the video of the 4/5 day Pathfinder course for 15 - 17 year olds. Extremely impressive. I love the level of emphasis on the mental elements of safe driving - something which I think is missed from a normal process of driving instruction. For the OP's grandchildren living in York, I no...
