Roads are not hazardous but incompetent drivers are and, FWIW, incompetence is not age related.

Perhaps they have learnt to be patient and are hoping some of it rubs off on other road users. :racing:

.... but I think the argument is that they rely on vehicle wheels to roller the chippings into place. Hence the "loose chippings" road signs and low speed requests - they're not there to reduce vehicle damage but to slow vehicles down to roll the bits in and not sweep them away.

Re: How does advanced driving deal with a modern manual gearbox

Certainly not the most fuel efficient, but it makes sense, as if you get the accelerating job over and done with as fast as possible, you can get back into the most fuel efficient gear, which is better than gradual acceleration in too high a gear! Exactly - well said Insanity! That is a point I oft...

Re: RoSPA launches website to keep older drivers safe on the roads

Going away from the thread a little, but I found on switching to a more powerful automatic version of the same model it was much more difficult to maintain a set speed without reference to the instruments, and in urban situations I prefer to keep all my attention on the road and its surroundings. I...

Re: RoSPA launches website to keep older drivers safe on the roads

It is not too difficult to stick quite closely to a chosen speed using the speedometer. Is choosing to stick to an indicated 33 a problem? Has anyone failed an advanced driving test for that level of excess over a limit? As an IAM Observer, I tell my Associates that they must practice obeying speed...

Re: RoSPA launches website to keep older drivers safe on the roads

I agree with Whosegeneration that it can be difficult to stick to the limits - cars are more powerful now than in the old days when the rattles and wheezing engine tended to limit progress. I disagree with this bit. Provided the car is in the appropriate gear and the driver is concentrating, the ca...

Re: Fuel Additives - When is it too much?

The biggest issue that the moment is inlet valve carbon build up on direct injection vehicles. Both car manufactures and the oil companies are working to try to find a solution to the problem. The problem of course is because of a lack of a wash effect from the fuel. Unless you could produce an oil...

So, what is the current definition of "anti-social" speed and where would it be listed?
