Re: Lighting...

Thought perhaps I should say when I turn rear fogs on or off ... if visibility is enough reduced, based on how well I can see the one ahead, and I can see nothing behind, I'll turn them on. If something catches up then, unless it's really bad, I'll turn them off, again based on how well I can see th...

Re: Lighting...

I've often wondered why rear fogs aren't tied into the speedo. Either have a 40mph limiter when they're on (...), or turn them off above that speed. If it's foggy enough to need them, you probably shouldn't be doing more than 40 anyway. In a motorway context I would expect to do it the other away a...

Re: Lighting...

automatic lights I find, when they're shining in my direction, they rather too often don't dip quickly enough. I mean, when they do dip it's very quick, but that the point at which they should dip can be well before that point at which they do. I've found that some oncoming headlights dip amazingly...

Re: Driving at Night

1. If you allowed yourself to drive faster as a consequence of the improved view from main beam then the moment you had to dip, by definition, you’d be driving too fast. I think this line of argument pre-supposes that the driver doesn't slow down for potential hazards and is using main beam always ...

Re: Driving to the conditions?

The hazard perception test includes the concept of a developing hazard but, as experienced drivers, we know that the roots of a developing hazard can often be spotted before they become sufficiently developed for the developing hazard as tested. We see someone at the side of the road, irrespective o...

Re: A Local Incident

I note that in the recent crash where 5 young crash victims (not all dead) were not found for a couple of days Off left at the start of a slightly sweeping right to a roundabout, limit had been 50 but changed to 30 at the start of the bend. Late at night. Deep into foliage, out of sight. No obvious...
