I don't know any ADI's who would teach that. It goes against the recommendations and would raise eyebrows on test to say the least.

I believe the police are currently evaluating a portable breath test device which will be 'evidential' - as it's more accurate. This will save the delay in getting to a station, booking someone in and then testing by which time they may be under the limit.

...there's a real issue with documented cases of drivers being prosecuted for passing through a red light (shown on the red light camera) when allowing an emergency vehicle through. My understanding is there have been a handful of prosecutions for going through a red-light from the automated camera...

It is a tricky situation but remember the police can direct you as is needed...perhaps their call was particularly urgent and the use of the standard horn could be interpreted they were instructing you to move over the stop line?
