It's, again, dumbing down, lcd and no interest in raising standards.

It would certainly be interesting to see how it scored, say an IAM masters or Rospa gold drive.

Re: 'Safe driving' Apps - Insurance company

Perhaps I'm cynical but several years ago there was a proposal to have gps in every vehicle for speed limit compliance. We now have many cars that can send position data to an assistance base in the event of an emergency, youngsters accepting black boxes to reduce insurance premiums, enough cctv co...

Re: What would an "advanced driver" autonomous car do...?

Seems as an appropriate thread as any - if you've got a good business idea related to autonomous driving, the government has opened a consultation and maybe some funding: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/advanced-driver-assistance-systems-and-automated-vehicle-technologies-supporting-thei...

Re: 'Safe driving' Apps - Insurance company

Has anyone actually tried one? I kept trying to download the Aviva one but it told me it wasn't compatible with the phone I had at the time. Haven't tried recently. Rather suspicious of them since I expect you have to register and I wonder if it sends data back to its mother ship. What do you mean ...

Re: Motorway Hard Shoulders

On the one hand I feel that getting rid of hard shoulders is a backwards move which reduces the safety of motorways, but on the other I see the need to increase motorway capacity and of course we lack the funds to do it properly. I'd prefer to increase speed of traffic by removing road users that w...

Re: Motorway Hard Shoulders

Do you also avoid roads like the A14 or A1? (ie long sections of dual carriageway with lots of heavies sometimes intermixed with tractors, and very occasionally the odd suicidal cyclist, but no hard shoulder)

Re: What would an "advanced driver" autonomous car do...?

'Manhole' covers are a common downfall for bikers. But I'd guess that more riders have crashed 'on' manhole covers from thrying [badly] to swerve (and so catching them at an angle) or by panic-braking (so locking up the front and crashing), or target-fixating on them (and collising when they might ...

Re: Theft potential of possible new car?

We've a friend who often complains about their car being scratched/dented in car parks. I have however had the 'pleasure' of being with them whilst they cruise the car park looking for a space closest to the entrance; eventually squeezing into the tightest spot. My comment that we could have parked...

Re: Let the games begin ....

... even when the RAB is only paint I try to keep off and treat it as steering practice. I should think so too. ;) One of my peeves about mini-RABs is the number of people who drive over them as if they are not there, or even go the wrong side of them! Many people when challenged don't even know th...

Re: Let the games begin ....

Here's an alternative - there's a group of drivers, and the skill level is mixed, even though all are deemed competent to drive. A small percentage of that group would be better served by a change in road design, and even though others will be 'affected', it is still worth considering. It's not a 0...
