Re: Driving instructors and learners - do they drive like each other?
Not being able to switch off rev matching in a manual car would stop me buying it. Even though it might facilitate BGOL? :) My only reason for wanting manual cars is to enjoy the satisfaction of exercising skills. One of the skills which I enjoy exercising is heel and toe to rev match when changing...

...ABS is also mandatory on motorcycles. Never knew that. Presumably it's only mandatory on bike of a certain cc or hp? "From 1/1/2016 all new-model bikes over 125cc will need ABS, while smaller bikes must have either ABS or a combined brake system." https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/...

Re: Hands on the wheel
Back to the TV obdocs, where police drivers are often seen in pursuits, one hand on the wheel the other working the radio. Is it a special part of their training that civvies don't get? - especially when part of the commentary often includes the risk assessment 'safe to continue'

Re: Hands on the wheel
I was sitting alongside a young driver last weekend who did a 45 minute route from South Bristol into some rural twisties and back and did nearly the whole thing one-handed. Did they crash? We haven't mentioned it yet, because it's so very obvious we forget, but modern cars with heavily power-assis...

Re: Associate cannot keep to the speed limit
Above or below the speed limit? ;) At the appropriate speed ;) (remember I'm coaching for RoSPA) The point, of course, is that most people can steer perfectly safely with one hand, and before they embark on AD, they probably haven't used two to drive in a straight line since they passed their drivi...

Re: Associate cannot keep to the speed limit
I often get associates to steer with one hand, to get rid of nervousness and over-steering. Hopefully this is fixed by test time, but even if it isn't, one hand is most often dominant, so I tell them to concentrate on just one hand, which helps with the relaxation and reduces contention between the...

Re: Hands on the wheel
If you watch 'Road Wars' 'Traffic Cops' and 'Interceptors', you'll notice that Hendon no longer exerts the influence it once did ;) Well, you live and learn. And there was me thinking that the driving was so bad on these shows that they were all just jobbing actors; and that Road Wars and Intercept...
