Re: Use of Indicator for Overtaking

How much delay do you mean, low single-figure seconds delay, or longer? Not sure where this fits in the sequence of this part of the conversation. If you explain, I'll try to answer. Irrelevant for the signalling question. Just me being interested (and a temporary thread derail). I took your origin...

Indicators go on and off. A moment later it would have been off anyway.

Re: Use of Indicator for Overtaking

Your use of the indicator carried a meaning known only to you. A headlamp flash is probably the most extreme example of potential for 'transmt-receive' errors. Anyway, Highway Code: https://www.highwaycodeuk.co.uk/using-the-road-overtaking.html Seems to be a signal: https://www.highwaycodeuk.co.uk/...

Re: Use of Indicator for Overtaking

Given the potential for severe consequences if it goes wrong, erring on the side of caution - Vs a hurried mistake - has to be better IMO. sometimes I'm not as prepared as I should be I ought to have been more clear about this, thinking the short-hand would be understood; I wasn't paying as much at...

Indeed, but better than continuing on ;)

If you're moving out for that final check, it's still 'intention'.

Re: Use of Indicator for Overtaking

Is 'overtaking' the lateral movement, passing the other vehicle (s), or both actions?

If both, then surely 'intention to overtake' still applies during the lane change and closing up?

... a quickly catching vehicle ... to let the other person know what I'm intending. If they've chosen to ignore it, I've bidden my time but, if there is a sign they're willing to wait for me to get on with it, then I've felt free to cancel the indicator and move out so that I can see if it's safe t...

Re: Use of Indicator for Overtaking

It's interesting of some stuff just doesn't translate. Paul Ripley used to write really good articles for the Telegraph. Superintendent Peter Amey was a driving force (pun intended) behind the 1995 rewrite of Roadcraft. Together, they wrote a book. I found it underwhelming at best. Please stick arou...
