If you stop suddenly for no good reason where there is following traffic that is likely to be negligent even if the following traffic is driving too close to also be able to stop safely. That would also be my view. So, going back to the original topic, could the car manufacturer be guilty of an off...

I'm not sure of the benefit of raising an advanced driving/riding qualification to assist one's case. Better to convince than impress.

That wouldn't suffice. The claimant would still need to show that there was a collision and that the defendant was involved.

Has anyone advocated strict criminal liability for motorists involved in a collisions with pedestrians/ My understanding is that civil liability ought to be changed to improve safety. Mike, I think you alluded to the answer earlier. In free-flowing traffic the prohibition effectively and generally does mean no overtaking. The double white line system has the same general effect. It is likely that the general rule is what people remember.

The Highway Code wording seems clear enough to me. Why would anyone think it applies to the whole queue? I plan to stop at the crossing until I can see it is clear for me to cross. At that point I'm happy to accelerate ahead of the lead vehicle although to be compliant I should match its speed until...
