Re: Young Drivers (again)
U17 Car Club is extremely highly regarded. You would have to get on with it, young people cannot join after their 16th birthday (yes, it is the young person who is the member). It is very time consuming - young people would expect to attend many summer weekends, and would mainly drive a family car.

Re: Young Drivers (again)
I did pre 17 stuff at their local, Tockwith, in 1971. I think it is sensible to be familiar with use of car controls before driving lessons on the road. As part of driving prep - the most important bit is building the right attitudes towards wanting to be safe and skilful drivers - I used to talk to...

Not what happens in London, most people now observe them.
Cameras may be set at 24, so unwise to exceed 23.

Re: A shift with the RPU (aka traffic police)
Interesting...and it's quite an eye opener. I spent a shift with the traffic training team of Bedfordshire police several years ago and really enjoyed watching and listening what was going on. One officer was having an Advanced refresher and the other was new to traffic. It included a fast run on t...

Re: A shift with the RPU (aka traffic police)
How do they avoid traffic moving out in front of them with such large speed differences? The warning equipment is quite effective. They mentioned that they like driving at night because the warning equipment is even more effective in the dark. I did not mean to imply that we spent the whole time on...

A shift with the RPU (aka traffic police)
A couple of days ago I enjoyed the rare for a civilian privilege of a few hours riding with Roads Policing officers. It was a normal shift for them in a fully marked Volvo V90. We spent most of the shift under blues and twos travelling towards incidents none of which turned out to be serious by the ...

Re: 61% of drivers haven't read the new highway code
according to the AA: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-62789079 so 35% of drivers are liars? I'd be amazed if it's anywhere near 4% never mind 40% that have read it. Some might be aware of these changes via news articles but I'm at the point where I wonder why we even bother with legislation and drivin...

Re: Comments from ADI...
Slow down, stop. Allow the slower driver to get ahead. Wait for empty road and enjoy your own pace. Most of my driving is done when I want to get somewhere - or when I have an impatient passenger, often my wife! On the occasions when I am out for a drive, taking an alternative route can be an optio...
