Re: Black Boxes
I don't know, but for a large insurance company to pursue black boxes they must anticipate a positive on the balance sheet.

Re: Black Boxes
The data collected is definately sold on to interested parties, so black boxes are a revenue earner. For gear selection probably possible on an auto with a management module, but would this have to be car make specific? Although these black boxes are aimed at the younger generation I have not got on...

Re: Nespresso Machine
After 9 years in Italy I'll stick with the traditional mokka. I like the ritual of making expresso including the sounds smell and time it takes. Not a fan of these pod machines for the reasons given above in this thread and the taste. Also a big no to milk from a pod or sachets because they must hav...

Black Boxes
Does anyone know what the insurance black boxes monitor, record and to what accuracy? I have been told minor speed infringement on a straight road is not a concern but cornering speed, cornering line and gear selection are more of a concern. I would assume that for cornering line the position accura...

IAM RoADAR is a punishment
My son has just started work at a well known large insurance company. During discussions he was asking about how IAM RoADAR advanced driving courses were perceived. I was surprised that the response from several depts was that the majority of responses from the general public consider IAM and RoADAR...

Re: What was your first car?
Before passing our driving tests my twin brother and I were given a Ford Cortina to practice our mechanical skills. Unfortunately the engine was terminal so we never got to drive the Cortina. This was replaced by a Transit Minibus with a 1700cc V4 which initially seemed ideal for two mad keen climbe...

Re: Paying above list price for a car.
New model with new technology, wait for a 2017 car with initial bugs resolved. I wouldn't want to pay a premium if I had to use long-term finance agreement. I can't imagine a price premium for very long but should maintain strong residuals like the original Focus RS.........on the other hand if it w...

Re: 'Safe driving' Apps - Insurance company
Perhaps I'm cynical but several years ago there was a proposal to have gps in every vehicle for speed limit compliance. We now have many cars that can send position data to an assistance base in the event of an emergency, youngsters accepting black boxes to reduce insurance premiums, enough cctv cov...

Re: Motorway Hard Shoulders
Very unpleasant seeing nothing but lorry filling the rear view mirror. I too think it is bad practice to sacrifice the hard shoulder, it's a safe haven for when you have a breakdown eg puncture. Traffic flow must be impeded more by pulling around a broken down vehicle, pushing lane 1 to 2 and lane 2...
