In the future the money that was given to these areas will have to come from somewhere. As has already been mentioned, part of the UK contribution to the EU is where the money comes from. For some people, it isn't "the economy stupid", there are in fact other values in life. ETA, just in case: No, I'm not calling anyone here stupid, that is a reference to a 1992 campaign slogan in US, which became rather famous ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It's_the_economy,_stupid ).

I think the most important figure to take from the referendum is 72%. If such a turnout could be sustained for actual elections, we might become a more democratic country.

something else I've noticed as a cyclist is blind spot warning lights in the wing mirrors of cars I'm overtaking... how long before drivers of these become reliant on that little red/amber light and stops doing shoulder checks? Then having problems in cars without them... Apparently there are blind...

Agreed Alasdair, not simple. I was deliberately choosing those who clearly cannot be expected to exercise what might be considered a normal duty of care and pointing out that they can be expected on the roads. As for cyclists yes "might be considered at times", but can equally be children ...
