Re: The state of roads.

Just back from a holiday in Northern Spain. Roads immaculate. Unlike here. Why? :soap: People should get a life and stop moaning. I drove to and from Cornwall on Friday. Apart from the road works where they're building the "missing link" on the A30 the roads are generally excellent. In fa...

Re: The state of roads.

Last year a road near me had all its potholes fixed and all the ironworks levelled up. Great. For about a month. Then they tarred and feathered, sorry, stone dressed the whole road leaving all the ironworks depressed again. I get reminded every time I cycle along it. Actually, I understand it is of...

Nothing seems to be happening at ADUK. Is it going to disappear completely?

Re: Doing them a dis-service

I pull away the same whether on the flat or hill. Am I missing a trick? It's easy for something to get so ingrained that you stop noticing small differences. Generally, to pull away up-hill, the engine speed needs to be raised slightly more before beginning to engage the clutch, although it rather ...

Re: All change

Why disagree? Handling isn't an entirely objective metric in that it needs to suit a driving style, which can vary between drivers. It's part of the reason why the opinions of automtive journalists to a car can vary. Personally, I don't care much about a car being "nimble" (in terms of &q...

Re: One of the dozen

I wonder if we sometimes concern ourselves a bit too much with our "rights" and notions of superiority, and pay rather too little attention to consideration, harmony and peaceful co-existence. OTOH that might be complete bollox, but it works quite well for me, most of the time. Best wishes...

Re: All change

Outside of the (obvious) addition to weight and reduction of steering efforts, Manufacturers are just making more fool-proof cars by bolstering up the performance envelope so even too coarse a driver would still be well within the confines of that envelope. Response to sudden changes of direction o...

Re: All change

Anybody got an MG Midget or Frogeye Sprite I can try? Back to basics motoring beckons. My first car was a 'Frogeye' Sprite, which I had from 1960 to 1967, at which time I acquired a Mark 4 sprite (1275 cc). The Mark 4 was no doubt 'better' but I had more enjoyment with the Mark 1 Sprite. I'd certai...

Re: All change

Yes, it had swing axles , like the Corvair - they pivoted at the differential, so when the rear end was light, the wheels turned in at the bottom. From the link above: http://www.canleyclassics.com/images/infodatabase/jack_ma_bitch_up.jpg Yes, thank you, Nick: that illustrates it very well. Inciden...
