Re: Let's Talk More

The trouble with the headlight flash by bikes, and this applies to cars now with all day lights, is that very often where a flash may be useful there is a sleeping policeman or other traffic calming, or a need to brake firmly. This can lead to what looks like a flash but isn't. I therefore try to av...

Re: Let's Talk More

I'm one of those who will leave a gap, if safe, in queuing traffic, but it is the other drivers responsibility to decide if it is safe for them to make the move. It's the same with NOT waving peds across. They have to take responsibility for their own safety. So, I'll make it easier for others, if s...

Re: Roads they been a changin'

Haven't driven a Renault with DCT. It might put me off what is otherwise a great car. What advantages does DCT now offer over a good conventional auto? The ZF 8 is so responsive that subjectively it replicates a DCT once on the go while being more pleasant while manoeuvring and at slow speeds. (I d...

Re: Roads they been a changin'

I entirely agree with you Mark, my experience also. My question was to GTR1400MAN as I am puzzled as to what he does do for a very short stop if not the footbrake and does he do anything different depending on whether the auto has stop start or not. I’ve understood that for very short stops the gen...

Re: Roads they been a changin'

I often wake up the engine before I need to move off by touching the accelerator while holding the car with my left foot on the brake. If I expect a stop to be very short I avoid the engine stopping by pressing less firmly on the footbrake. In the first instance I'd be greeted by a flashing spanner...

Re: Intelligent Speed Assistance - coming soon?

So we can 'look forward' car drivers now driving on the limiter everywhere, the same as lorries, in the mis-guided belief they are safe. :headbang:

Re: Use of ZF 8-speed auto gearbox (BMW and other makes)

I wondered as it is a facility I make quite a bit of use of on my car (not a ZF 8 speed). Yes, the return time can be a bit variable on most cars/types of box. I tend to use the facility to drop a gear or two approaching an NSL, or down a gear when coming into a RAB (where if you are driving with a ...

Re: Use of ZF 8-speed auto gearbox (BMW and other makes)

Most paddle setups let you override the auto for a while without going out of auto mode. Can you not do that with this box?

I borrowed a Golf hybrid recently, quite surprising how much road noise you hear when there's no engine to drown it!

It's amazing how much noise tyres and a chain make. ;)

Re: Roads they been a changin'

To make the engine go off:

Handbrake on and in neutral, or firmly maintaining pressure on the foot brake at a standstill. (Don't know if the seat belt sensor is involved or not)
